LONDON — Crystal Dunn scored her first league goal for the Chelsea Ladies in their 6-0 WSL home win over Yeovil Sunday.
The Rockville Centre, N.Y. native and former Albertson Fury standout tallied in the 71st minute to boost Chelsea’s margin to 5-0.
Dangerous all afternoon, Dunn’s performance was called “hugely impressive” by the Chelsea website. The U.S. international either made life miserable for Yeovil’s defenders and midfielders with runs down the right flank and for the goalkeeper, who made several vital saves.
“It feels great,” Dunn told the Chelsea website. “I was really excited and the team played well. The first half was a bit rusty at times but the team stuck with it and I think it was a great result.
“These are games if you show up one day but you don’t show up another day then anything can happen and for us, it is about execution and staying committed to our standards.”
Dunn raced down the right wing before powering a shot home.
“My goal finally came and it was a great ball from Erin [Cuthbert],” Dunn said. “I was a bit frustrated in the first half but there was not much space for me. It opened up in the second half which allowed me to get some chances.”
Dunn also set up Cuthbert’s header goal in the 65th minute for a three-goal margin.
There will be no rest for the weary as Chelsea plays another league encounter at Reading Wednesday night.
“There is no time to catch your breath, and Reading are going to be a tough opponent,” Dunn told the Chelsea website. “I have heard they made a couple of good signings so it is going to be a very competitive game.”
Dunn will join Chelsea’s other new signings – Ramona Bachmann, Maren Mjelde and Cuthbert on stage at the “An Audience With…’ event at Stamford Bridge Thursday when they will answer questions from fans.
