PURCHASE, N.Y. — Trying to bounce back from yet another defeat to Orlando City SC, Patrick Vieira has liked what he has seen in training with New York City FC.

But whether City can translate that into a result at the Columbus Crew in a Major League Soccer encounter Saturday night, that’s another matter.

“Since the game against Orlando, I’ve had the answer I wanted from the players,” the NYCFC head coach said this week. “When you look at the intensity and the way they’re working, I’m really pleased, so now we have to transfer that into the game.

“I think when you look at the teams in the league and how well they’re doing, especially in the East, every game will be tough.”

Both teams are coming off loses. NYCFC (3-3-1, 10 points), in seventh place in the Eastern Conference dropped a 2-1 decision to Orlando while second-place Columbus (4-3-1, 13) was blanked at the Red Bulls, 2-0, with the team staying over to watch the City encounter at Yankee Stadium the next day.

“Going there to Columbus will be a difficult game for us and it’s important for us to bounce back,” Vieira said. “Every time we’ve had our back against the walls we always answer well, so this will be another test for us. I’m looking forward to seeing how the team will react from that defeat to Orlando.”
