Foruteen of the Cosmos’ 16 North American Soccer League games will be televised on local television this spring season.

The club’s home opener against Miami FC at MCU Park Saturday, April 1st will be broadcast on Tribune Media’s flagship New York station, WPIX, Channel 11.

WPIX has a long history of televising many of the New York areas most popular sporting events, having telecast games of the International Soccer League in the 1960s.

The game, which will be the Cosmos’ first game at MCU Park at Coney Island in Brooklyn, also marks the first time they will play live on broadcast television in more than 30 years.

MSG Networks will kick off their coverage against Miami FC at FIU Stadium in Miami Saturday, April 8. MSG Networks will carry 13 matches during the spring season.

“Television is a critically important piece to building and sustaining a successful professional sports brand,” Cosmos’ Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover said in a statement. “With WPIX and MSG, we have found two exceptional partners to help bring the fun and excitement of Cosmos’ games to millions of homes in the New York metropolitan area.”

No broadcasters have been named yet.

“MSG Networks is proud to be the regional home of Cosmos soccer,” MSG Network’s vice president of content distribution and affiliate partnerships Armando Polanco said in a press release. “It’s a new era for the legendary American club and we are excited to watch the Cosmos defend their NASL title.”

WPIX has televised local sporting events through the decades, most notably the Yankees during their glory years of the fities, sixties and seventies.

“PIX11 is ‘New York’s Very Own’ and committed to bringing the best news, entertainment and sports to our viewers, and we’re thrilled to partner with the iconic Cosmos for their eagerly anticipated return to New York broadcast television,” Tribune Broadcasting’s senior vice president of group operations Greg Easterly said in a statement.

Several number of Cosmos games will be available through the national television deal expected to be announced by the NASL next week. The Cosmos’ local television schedule for the fall season will be announced later this year.

The Cosmos will kick off their NASL season as they travel to Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium to take on Puerto Rico FC March 25.
