Sky Blue FC players Sam Kerr and Nikki Stanton and their Perth Glory teammates fell short of their quest for the W-League championship at nib Stadium Sunday.

Perth fell to Melbourne City, which became the first team to capture successive titles via a 2-0 victory.

Kerr was a constant threat in the opening half hour before Melbourne took control of the match.

Player-coach Jess Fishlock tallied in first-half stoppage time as striker Beverly Yanez sealed the win in the 72nd minute due to a goalkeeping error from Gabrielle Dal Busco.

Kerr had an excellent opportunity to equalize in the 69th minute, but she sent her header wide of the target.
