METUCHEN, N.J. – Jeanine Nunez has signed on to return to New Jersey Copa FC for the 2018 United Women’s Soccer season.

Nunez will play with NJCFC for the third consecutive year.

“I’m very excited to be coming back to my Copa family this summer,” Nunez said. “I’ve missed the feeling of summer games with Copa Nation making lots of noise. Time to bring home some hardware this year!”

Nunez, who resides on Staten Island, has completed her eligibility at Adelphi University.

“Jeanine is the heartbeat to our offense,” Copa head coach Roberto Aguas said. “Her energy is infectious- she somehow manages to bring a genuine smile and a fiery determination to dominate opponents in the same breath. We could not be more excited to have Jeanine back for her third season with NJCFC.”

Nunez, who played more 700 minutes for New Jersey Copa FC last year, recorded six goals and two assists. Against the Long Island Rough Riders, Nunez converted the game-winning penalty kick. She earned player of the match several times on her way to leading the team to the 2017 UWS regular season championship and a Eastern Conference finalist finish.

“After a stellar All-American campaign this past fall for Adelphi, we could not be more excited to have Jeanine back,” Aguas said. “She gives us an edge any time she steps out onto the field. Behind her, we’re ready to make another playoff run in 2018.”

In her senior season, Nunez was awarded United Soccer Coaches third team All-American (2017), United Soccer Coaches All-Region first team (which she earned in 2016 and 2017), United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American (2017) and CoSIDA Academic All District first team (2017). She scored 12 goals and added five assists in 2017, including goals in eight of her first 10 games.
