QUEENS, N.Y. — Two St. John’s University women’s players have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America District 1 team — seniors Jesse Schaefer and Shea Connors.
Both players will be on the final ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.
Schaefer, an All-Big EAst second team pick this season, was a four-year starter for head coach Ian Stone and earned her first conference defensive player of the week honor this season after leading the Red Storm to a 1-0 win over Seton Hall.
The Dublin, Ohio, native missed only one game in her four years and was an integral part of a defensive unit that limited opponents to one goal or less in 15 of the team’s 18 games this season. In the classroom, Schaefer posted a 3.88 grade-point average as a finance major and Spanish minor and was inducted into the 2017 St. John’s University President’s Society, one of the most prestigious honors a student can earn at the school.
Connors saw her final season in Queens shortened due to injury as the New Haven, Conn. native played in 13 games. Connors, the team’s leading goal-scorer as a junior, recorded one goal and an assist. A criminal justice major, Connors has posted a 3.98 GPA.
Both players have been members of the Big EAst All-Academic Team since 2014 and a part of four St. John’s women’s soccer teams that have won United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) team academic awards.
