YONKERS, N.Y. — Lansdowne Bhoys booked a spot in the 2018 Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup by defeating Lone Star Under-23s, 3-1, at Tibbets Park Saturday night.

Daryl Kavanagh scored twice in the second half for the defending U.S. Amateur Cup champions , who won their third-round qualifying match. The Open Cup competition is scheduled to kick off in May.

Lukas Zarges set up Paco Navarro, who lifted the Cosmopolitan Soccer League side into the lead in the 44th minute.

Kavanagh doubled the lead in the 53rd minute as he beat two defenders and drilled in a 20-yard shot with his left foot. He connected from his second goal of the night, converting Andrew Sousa’s free kick from the left flank in the 72nd minute for a 3-0 advantage.

The Lone Star goalkeeper made several big-time saves to keep his team within striking distance.

The visitors pulled one back in the 88th minute.

In other match, the Rochester River Dogz will take on Stegman’s Soccer Club (Minn.) at Thornell Farm Park Turf Field in a third-round qualifier in Pittsford, N.Y. Sunday at 1 p.m.
