SAN JOSE, Calif. — Julie Ertz, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd scored goals as the U.S. national team closed out play in 2017 with a 3-1 win over Canada at Avaya Stadium Sunday night.

The teams played to a 1-1 tie at BC Place in Vancouver Thursday night.

The 2016 Olympic bronze medal winners have not defeated the Americans since 2001.

“Obviously, end of the year we wanted to finish it off on a good note, and I thought tonight was well played,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis said.

Ertz, who played in college at Santa Clara, scored her sixth goal of the year and 14 international tally in the 11th minute on a header off a set piece.

Janine Beckie scored her first goal against the U.S. in the 50th minute off a pass from Nichelle Prince.

Seven minutes later Morgan put the hosts back on top, slotting home the ball past goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe. Morgan, who has seven goals in 2017, raised her international goal tally to 80.

Lloyd, who came in as a sub in the second half, added an insurance goal in the 80th minute for goal No. 98.
