AUBURN, Ala. – The Hofstra University women fell to Auburn, 1-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Tournament at Auburn Soccer Complex Friday night.

The Pride, which had its 12-game winning streak snapped, finished the season 15-4-2. It was Hofstra’s first defeat since Sept. 4. Auburn improved to 8-6-5 and advanced to play the winner of top-seeded Stanford-Utah Valley game.

The Tigers scored the game-winner at 53:54 as Bri Folds bent her shot into the top left corner of the net from the top of the box.

Senior Kristin Desmond nearly scored midway through the first half, chipping the ball past goalkeeper Sarah Le Beau and shooting on the empty net, but an Auburn defender got back in time, stopping the ball on the goal line.

Freshman Lucy Porter had a chance early in the second half, with her uncontested shot being tipped over the crossbar by Le Beau. Desmond had another opportunity a moment later with Le Beau making the short-side save. Le Beau made another sprawling save on senior Katie Gerdes’ attempt to equalize from about 25 yards in the latter half of the second half.

The Hofstra goalkeeping tandem of Jenna Borresen and Ashley Wilson teamed up to make five saves, with Wilson making an acrobatic stop in the second half to keep Auburn from doubling its lead.
