HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Freshman Lucy Porter scored the game’s lone goal as the Hofstra University women topped William & Mary College, 1-0, in the Colonial Athletic Associaton semifinal Friday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium to advance to the CAA Championship.

The Pride (14-3-2), which is 7-1-1 at home, extended its winning streak to 11 games and pushed its unbeaten run to 13. William & Mary finished its season at 8-10-2.

Hofstra will face No. 3 seed Northeastern in the title game Sunday at 1 p.m. for a chance to book a spot in the NCAA Division I tournament.

The clean sheet was Hofstra’s 11th shutout of the season, one off the school record.

Hofstra dominated possession, outshooting the Tribe, 18-4. After several close chances that came up empty in the first half, Porter broke through in the 63rd minute.

Junior Monique Iannella sent in a corner kick that classmate Madeline Anderson headed on goal, but a William & Mary defender made a save on the goal line. Porter then tapped in the rebound.

Junior Jenn Buoncore had a chance in the second half that nearly made it 2-0, sailing just high of the left corner.

The Pride returns to the championship for the first time since 2014, when it also squared off with Northeastern.
