CHARLESTON, S.C. – After clinching the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title last weekend, the Hofstra University women will close the regular season at conference foe Charleston at the Soccer Stadium at Patriots Point Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Pride (12-3-2, 8-0 CAA) has had a storybook run this season, putting together nine straight wins as part of an 11-game unbeaten streak. Over that span, Hofstra has allowed two goals, scoring 10 times as many goals as its opponents. As a result, the Pride ranks in the top 30 in Division I in team goals-against average and save percentage.
The freshman class came up big for the Pride last week, with all three of Hofstra’s goals coming from rookies. Lucy Porter scored the game’s only goal in a key 1-0 win over defending CAA champion Northeastern, while Bella Richards and Lucy Shepherd each found the back of the net in the Pride’s title-clinching 2-0 win over Elon College. Richards was named CAA Player of the Week for her efforts.
The Cougars (8-7-1, 3-4-1) have dropped their past two games, falling in a pair of 1-0 decisions to UNCW and Drexel, with the Dragons taking the win in overtime. Charleston has needed extra time in five of its eight conference games.
Laura Ortega is tied for second in the conference with Kristin Desmond with 20 points on the season. In net, Genevieve Henderson holds a .824 save percentage and 0.98 goals-against average for the Cougars.
Hofstra and Charleston have met five times since the Cougars joined the CAA, with Charleston earning its first win over the Pride last season, a 1-0 decision in South Carolina.

The Pride will then have a bye week, with the conference’s No. 3-6 seeds competing in the CAA quarterfinals, with the winners advancing to the semifinals at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Nov. 3.
