The Monmouth University men will host America East opponent UMBC Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Hawks (2-1-1) are coming off two solid performances, beginning with the 2-0 win against Penn in the home opener last Friday.

Sophomore Andy Martinez scored his first career goal as freshman Dan Frisch-Harmon picked up his first assist in his first career start. Sophomore Geoff Schaefer made it 2-0 with a long ball volley from senior Jake Areman.

Two days later, the Hawks battled No. 14 West Virginia to a 0-0 tie. Monmouth and goalkeeper Bobby Edwards have compiled three shutouts in their first four games, with the only goal allowed via a penalty kick. Edwards is sporting a goals-against-average of 0.237.

Last season, the Retrievers (2-1) finished at 5-9-3, 0-7-0 America East, missing the conference tournament for the first time since 2008.

UMBC won four of five America East championships from 2010-14, including a run to the College Cup in 2014.

Four Retrievers have scored a goal this season, including sophomore midfielder Colin Weyant, senior midfielder Sammy Kahsai, junior defender Kyle Saunderson and senior defender Tom Paul.

Freshman goalkeeper Ciaran O’Loughlin has started all three games, making 12 saves and giving up five goals (all to Villanova).
