Cosmos center back Dejan Jakovic has been called into the Canadian national team for its Sept. 2 international friendly against Jamaica at BMO Field in Toronto.

Both teams failed to reach the CONCACAF Hexagonal.

Unless he doesn’t feature in the match, Jakovic is likely to miss the Cosmos’ home game against Jacksonville Armada FC at MCU Park in Brooklyn Sunday, Sept. 3.

Jakovic played well for Canada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Maple Leafs reached the knockout round for the first time since 2009.

“When we play at home, we want to play good football and we want to pick up from where we left off at the CONCACAF Gold Cup,” said Canada national coach Octavio Zambrano, who guided the MetroStars from 2000-02. “We want to continue to build on what we have established at the CONCACAF Gold Cup and that will happen every time we get together.”
