FC Cincinnati will be out for a measure of revenge and some satisfaction when the United Soccer League side visits Red Bulls II at MSU Park in Montclair, N.J. at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Cincy (8-8-7, 31 points) lost to the Red Bulls in the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup Tuesday night, dropping a 3-2 decision. The side enjoyed a two-goal advantage before New York rallied late to equalize and win on Bradley Wright-Phillips’ goal in extratime.
NYRB II (8-11-4, 28) comes off a 1-1 draw at the Charleston Battery. The team is in need of a result to keep pace with Orlando City B, which overtook the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot after a midweek victory.
Cincinnati lost both previous match-ups in 2016 to NYRB II.
Following Saturday’s match, Red Bulls II will finish out the USL regular season with six of their remaining eight games on the road making that home encounter all that more important.
Stefano Bonomo has made USL team of the week the past two weeks and is one of the hottest strikers in the league scoring in two consecutive games and three of the four he has played.
New York heads back out on the road to face Ottawa Fury FC Sunday, Aug. 27 as newly appointed Ottawa head coach Julian Guzman will make his home debut.
