Outside of scoring the winning goal, Sean Johnson could not have done any more or better for New York City FC.

The veteran goalkeeper was outstanding in the net, helping City secure a shutout at the StubHubCenter in Carson, Calif., a 2-0 victory over the LA Galaxy Saturday night.

Johnson, who made five saves, some of them spectacular, was named FrontRowSoccer.com player of the week.

It was his first selection of the season for the award, which included games through Sunday.

“Sean had a fantastic game,” NYCFC head coach Patrick Vieira said. “We tried not to give them so much space but against the quality of the players that they have up front you will concede chances during the game and when we conceded those chances our keeper made the save.”

Johnson denied Romain Alessandrini by tipping away his right-wing cross in the 15th minute. He went into action again in the 40th minute, parrying away Pele van Anholt’s attempt. In the 84th minute, Johnson stopped Bradford Jamieson’s 16-yard attempt in the 84th minute.

“I feel good and that’s the most important thing,” he said, adding that he wants to do “everything I can to help this team.

“We’re at a key moment in our season. We’ve had two good wins against two good teams. It’s a big stretch for us. We got to just keep moving forward. We’ll enjoy this one for a couple days then start preparing for New England.”

NYCFC hosts the New England Revolution at Yankee Stadium Sunday.
