HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra University junior defender Madeline Anderson was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association preseason team.

The Pride was predicted to finish fifth in the CAA this season in the preseason poll, the conference released Friday afternoon.

Anderson, a Westbury, N.Y. native who has been in the Hofstra starting lineup since she was a freshman, came off the field just twice last season, logging 1,600 minutes. A strong one-on-one defender, Anderson also has the ability to create offense from the back, finishing last season with two goals and an assist, including scoring the extratime-winner against Fairleigh Dickinson University. As a key member of the Pride’s backline, Anderson helped hold opponents to one goal or fewer in 12 games last season.

Hofstra earned 48 points in the preseason poll voted on by the conference’s 10 head coaches. Defending CAA champion Northeastern University was the unanimous top pick with 81 points. The Pride posted a 4-5 CAA record last season to finish in seventh. Hofstra ended the season with three consecutive conference win including defeating the eventual-champion Huskies.
