METUCHEN, N.J. – The Long Island Rough Riders will face Grand Rapids FC Women in the United Women’s Soccer national semifinals in Grand Rapids, Mich. Friday night.

The Riders (8-2-1), who captured the East Conference title with a 5-1 win over New Jersey Copa FC Tuesday night, tussles with Midwest champion Grand Rapids (10-1-1) at Grandville High School in the second game of a doubleheader at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In the opening match, defending UWS champion and Western Conference champs Santa Clarita Blue Heat (8-0-0) will meet the Detroit Sun FC (7-2-3), the Midwest Conference runners-up.

The semifinal winners will play for the UWS Championship Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Santa Clarita was first to automatically qualify via winning the West regular season title while Grand Rapids won the four-team Midwest playoff last Sunday for the second berth.

Detroit was awarded the fourth as the wild card seed.
