The Red Bulls will hit the road for the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup semifinals.
They will play the winner of the Miami FC-FC Cinncinati quarterfinal on Aug. 8 or 9, in a draw determined by U.S. Soccer Friday.
The Miami-Cincinnati game in south Florida could not be played Wednesday night due to severe weather. No date has been determined for the game.
Regardless who or where they compete, the Red Bulls will tangle with a lower-division side for the right to reach the final. Miami plays in the North American Soccer League, Cincinnati in the United Soccer League.
New York also was drawn second in the priority hosting order for the final, should the team advance. Sporting Kansas City holds the top spot in the order, while the other Western semifinalist, the San Jose Earthquakes, is third. Translated: if the Red Bulls move on, they would play at Kansas City or host San Jose in the final.
The Red Bulls nipped the New England Revolution in Boston, 1-0, on an 87th-minute goal by Bradley Wright-Phillips Thursday night.
