HOLMDEL, N.J. — Sammy Gehman fired a 32-yard shot home to lift FC Motown to a 2-1 extratime victory over NJ Copa FC in the first round of the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night.

FC Motown advanced to the second round as it will meet the Rochester Rhinos in the second round next Wednesday, May 17.

Ryan Campbell lifted NJ Copa FC into the lead as he took advantage of a missed header and tallied in the 26th minute.

Putting on the pressure to close the half, the visitors equalized in the 39th minute when a cross from the left by Rodrigo Santiago careened off the cross bar and fell for Dritan Sela, who poked in the rebound.

Neither side could find the go-ahead goal before the end of 90 minutes, forcing extra time. That’s when Gehman’s highlight-reel free kick curved into the top left corner, giving the side a  comeback win.
