Cosmos goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer and captain and center back Carlos Mendes were selected to the North American Soccer League team of the week.

Former New York City FC midfielder Kwandwo Poku, now with Miami FC, also was named to the team as a forward.

Maurer and Mendes backstopped the Cosmos’ season-opening scoreless draw at Puerto Rico FC Saturday night, while Poku tallied the equalizing goal for Miami in its 1-1 tie with North Carolina FC the same night.

After his shot was saved, Poku would end up accidentally blocking his teammates’ follow-up attempt. Poku quickly recovered to put the ball in the back of the net in the 14th minute.

The teams will meet in the Cosmos’ home opener at MCU Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
